I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM – REQUIREMENTS
The waterproofing of a tiled roof made of tiles fixed with strong cement mortar on an inclined concrete slab requires a waterproofing layer between the slab and the tiles that provides effective waterproofing, has high resistance and durability, and can be applied even on slightly inclined roofs.
II. SOLUTION
AQUAMAT‑FLEX, a flexible brushable sealing slurry, forms an ideal waterproofing layer beneath roof tiles fixed with mortar. It bonds completely to the concrete slab, is elastic and crack‑resistant, provides complete waterproofing even on slightly inclined roofs, allows vapour to escape to avoid condensation and offers a suitable substrate for thermal insulation layers.
III. APPLICATION
Substrate preparation: Fill cavities and cracks with DUROCRET or a cement mortar reinforced with ADIPLAST. Along intersections (e.g., chimneys, parapets) form triangular grooves (5‑6 cm per side) with DUROCRET or cement mortar with ADIPLAST. Thoroughly dampen the substrate without creating puddles.
AQUAMAT‑FLEX sealing layer: Mix component A (25 kg powder) with component B (8 kg liquid) until a viscous mixture suitable for brush application is formed. Apply 2–3 coats of AQUAMAT‑FLEX to the slab, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next. Avoid layers thicker than 1 mm. Total consumption: about 2–3 kg/m².
Thermal insulation and fixing roof tiles: For sprayed polyurethane insulation, the foam bonds well to the sealing layer; no special measures are required. When using extruded polystyrene boards, fix the boards mechanically or with adhesive and cover with wire mesh for safety. To fix roof tiles, first apply a spatterdash reinforced with ADIPLAST (cement:sand:ADIPLAST:water = 1:1:0.25:0.25). Fix tiles using strong cement mortar with ADIPLAST (cement:sand:ADIPLAST = 1:3:0.20). Consumption of ADIPLAST is about 0.8 kg/m² per cm of mortar thickness.
IV. REMARKS
AQUAMAT‑ELASTIC can be used instead of AQUAMAT‑FLEX. During application the ambient temperature should be between +5 °C and +30 °C. Always follow the safety instructions on the product packaging.
