Application of colored, water-repellent render for preparation of smooth surfaces
RELATED MATERIALS
• MARMOCRET Fine – Pre-mixed, water-repellent render; smooth finish.
• MARMOCRET-BOND – Mortar for bonding spatterdash of render.
• MARMOCRET-BASE – Pre-mixed render for the base coat.
• PL-PRIMER – Render primer / dehydration barrier.
• ADIPLAST – Polymer latex for multiple improvements of mortars.
• FIBERGLASS MESH – For render reinforcing.
I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM – REQUIREMENTS
The overlay of a building's facade must combine an aesthetically pleasing finish with resistance to adverse weather conditions.
II. SOLUTION
MARMOCRET Fine is a premixed render with fine-grade particles used to create decorative white or colored renders with a smooth finish. It only requires the addition of water and provides:
• Complete watertightness (DIN 18550).
• No need for facade painting.
• Excellent vapour permeability and transpiration.
• Stable manufactured properties.
• Suitability for both external and internal use.
• No cracking like ordinary cement-lime renders.
• Simplified use since only water is added.
III. APPLICATION
Spatterdash layer — Surfaces must be clean and damp. Apply a traditional spatterdash layer. For difficult or smooth surfaces (e.g., thermal insulating boards) enhance bonding by adding ADIPLAST to the spatterdash mix (cement : sand : ADIPLAST : water = 1 : 1 : 0.25 : 0.25). MARMOCRET-BOND can be used instead of traditional spatterdash.
Undercoat layer — After the spatterdash has hardened, apply a traditional undercoat to even out the surface and correct imperfections. MARMOCRET-BASE can replace the traditional undercoat. When rendering over insulating layers (polystyrene, polyurethane, etc.) embed fiberglass mesh reinforcement into the undercoat while it is still fresh to prevent cracking. Before applying MARMOCRET Fine, prime with PL-PRIMER to reduce absorptivity and ensure uniform colour (consumption ≈ 40–100 g/m² depending on substrate).
Finishing layer – Application of MARMOCRET Fine — Add MARMOCRET Fine to clean water while stirring until a workable mortar forms. Apply with a float, trowel or plastering machine. After partial curing, rub the surface with a sponge float. Consumption is about 1.4 kg/m² per mm of render thickness; recommended thickness 2–5 mm.
IV. REMARKS
• Apply at temperatures between +5 °C and +35 °C.
• In summer, keep the rendered surfaces damp after application to prevent dehydration due to high temperatures.
• Follow the safety and risk instructions on the packaging.
