Painting of walls with high durability epoxy coating

RELATED MATERIALS
- EPOXYCOAT
- DUROFLOOR-BI
- EPOXYCOAT-AC
- SM-14

I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM – REQUIREMENTS
Walls in industrial plants and special use buildings such as breweries, dairies, food factories, laboratories, car wash stations and shops need coatings that can withstand repeated washing and exposure to chemicals. The coating should resist diluted acids, alkalis, salts, petroleum products, solvents, water, sea water and weather conditions. It should be easy to clean and protect the substrate.

II. SOLUTION
EPOXYCOAT is a two-component epoxy coating cured with polyamide. It provides high resistance to diluted acids and alkalis, petroleum products, some solvents, water, sea water and weather. It adheres strongly to the substrate, provides high mechanical strength and a decorative finish. Cement-based surfaces are primed with DUROFLOOR-BI or EPOXYCOAT diluted with 10–15% SM-14. Metal surfaces are primed with the anticorrosive epoxy primer EPOXYCOAT-AC.

III. APPLICATION

Preparation of substrate
- Substrate must be dry, stable and free of dust, grease and loose materials.
- Remove dust using a vacuum cleaner.
- For cement surfaces apply DUROFLOOR-BI epoxy primer or EPOXYCOAT diluted with 10‑15% SM-14 and allow it to harden.
- For metal surfaces apply a coat of EPOXYCOAT-AC and allow to harden.

Application of EPOXYCOAT
- Mix components A and B in the prescribed ratio (4 : 1 by weight) using a low speed electric mixer.
- Apply at least two coats of EPOXYCOAT by brush, roller or airless spray.
- Consumption is approximately 200–300 g/m² per coat.
- Allow about 24 hours between coats.

IV. REMARKS
- Pot life decreases at higher temperatures.
- Provide good ventilation during application and curing to remove solvents.
- Protect the fresh coating from moisture until it has cured. It can be exposed to moderate chemical stress after 7 days at 23 °C.
- If more than 48 hours elapse between coats, roughen or clean the surface to ensure adhesion.
- Use gloves and goggles and avoid skin contact. Follow the safety instructions on the product.
