Painting of walls with high durability epoxy coating
RELATED MATERIALS
– EPOXYCOAT – Two‑component epoxy coating for high durability
– DUROFLOOR‑BI – Two‑component, colorless epoxy impregnation/primer
– EPOXYCOAT‑AC – Anti‑corrosive epoxy primer for metal surfaces
– SM‑14 – Special solvent for epoxy coatings
I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM – REQUIREMENTS
Walls in industrial or special‑purpose buildings (dairies, slaughterhouses, food and beverage industries, workshops, chemical plants, etc.) must withstand aggressive chemicals and be easy to clean. Coatings should provide high mechanical strength, be resistant to diluted acids and alkalis, petroleum products, solvents, water and sea water, and withstand regular cleaning without chalking or fading.
II. SOLUTION
EPOXYCOAT is a two‑component epoxy coating that forms a hard, durable film with excellent chemical and mechanical resistance. It adheres strongly to cement‑based substrates when combined with appropriate primers. It is resistant to diluted acids, alkalis, petroleum products, solvents, water, sea water and weather conditions. It can be tinted in a wide range of colours, providing an attractive and hygienic finish.
III. APPLICATION
Substrate preparation
1. Cement‑based surfaces must be dry (moisture content < 4%), sound and free of dust, grease and oils. Clean by brushing, grinding or shot blasting and then vacuum to remove dust.
2. Porous cement substrates are primed with DUROFLOOR‑BI diluted with SM‑14 at a ratio of 1:1 by weight or with EPOXYCOAT diluted with SM‑14 at the same ratio.
3. Metal surfaces are primed with EPOXYCOAT‑AC antirust epoxy primer.
Application of EPOXYCOAT
1. Mix components A and B thoroughly with a low‑speed mixer until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. For the first coat, thin the mixture with 2–5% SM‑14 if necessary.
2. Apply the material with brush, roller or airless spray in at least two coats. Consumption is approximately 200–300 g/m² per coat.
3. Allow the first coat to cure for 24 hours at 20 °C before applying the next coat. Clean tools with SM‑14.
IV. REMARKS
– Ensure good ventilation during application and drying because the product contains solvent.
– Working time of the mixture decreases at higher temperatures.
– Do not apply if substrate moisture exceeds 4% and protect the coating from moisture for at least 12 hours after application.
– If more than 24 hours elapse between coats, lightly sand the surface to ensure good adhesion.
– Wear protective gloves and goggles during application and avoid skin contact and inhalation of vapours.
