I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM – REQUIREMENTS
Moisture due to rain in external walls is a common problem, especially when no waterproof render was used or where poor‑quality paint has been applied. The problem is worse on north‑facing walls, on surfaces with cracks or near the sea. It can be solved even at a later stage by painting. The paint used must be waterproof, strong, elastic and highly resistant to adverse weather conditions.
II. SOLUTION
FLEXCOAT is an ideal solution for painting wall surfaces, making them waterproof and easy to wash. It is a high‑quality, highly elastic, water‑paint with elastomeric resins. It provides:
• Total waterproofing of walls against rain.
• High elasticity and the ability to cover cracked surfaces.
• Vapor permeability, allowing the structure to breathe.
• Strong bonding to the substrate and excellent coverage.
• Excellent washability.
• An aesthetically pleasing result.
FLEXCOAT is suitable for external or internal application, on new or old surfaces and on all building materials such as render, exposed concrete, brick and gypsum board.
III. APPLICATION
Substrate preparation
1. The substrate must be dry and free of any grease, dust and loose materials.
2. Repair existing imperfections in the render with DUROCRET polymer‑modified cement mortar, UNICRET cement‑lime mortar or UNICRET-FAST fast‑setting cement‑lime mortar.
3. Imperfections in exposed concrete should be repaired with polymer‑modified cement putties PLANFIX or PLANFIX-FINE.
4. Cracks or joints should be widened to approximately 3 mm and then filled with ISOMASTIC-A acrylic sealant.
5. Prime the surface with FLEX-PRIMER primer‑loose render stabilizer. Consumption: 100–200 g/m², depending on the absorptivity of the substrate.
6. Once the primer has completely dried, application of FLEXCOAT can follow.
Application of FLEXCOAT
Stir FLEXCOAT thoroughly before use. Apply 2 coats, undiluted or diluted with up to 5% water, by brush, roller or spray. Apply the second coat after the first one has completely dried. Coverage: 8–10 m² per litre per coat. For walls with severe multiple cracks, reinforce the FLEXCOAT membrane with 100 cm wide polyester fabric: apply a coat of FLEXCOAT as wide as the reinforcing material and, while still wet, position the fabric. Repeat across the surface. Once all reinforcement is in place, apply 2 more coats of FLEXCOAT over the entire surface. Total consumption: approximately 1‑1.5 m² per litre.
