RELATED MATERIALS
- DUROCRET: Polymer-modified cement mortar.
- RAPICRET: Fast-setting patching mortar.
- UNICRET: Mortar for rendering and masonry.
- UNICRET-FAST: Fast-setting, white repairing mortar.
- ADIPLAST: Polymer latex for multiple improvements of mortars.
- FIBERGLASS MESH: Fiberglass mesh for render reinforcing.
I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM – REQUIREMENTS
Detachment of non-supporting masonry walls from their supporting structures (e.g., concrete frames) creates strength and stability problems in the masonry and is unsightly.
II. SOLUTION
The materials used must provide:
- Efficient bonding to bricks and concrete.
- Sufficient workability to facilitate filling of cracks.
- Low shrinkage during setting so that they do not crack as they harden.
For repair of cracks use DUROCRET polymer-modified cement mortar or RAPICRET fast-setting patching mortar for rapid repairs. For repair of plaster use UNICRET cement‑lime mortar or UNICRET‑FAST fast‑setting cement‑lime mortar reinforced with ADIPLAST polymer latex.
III. APPLICATION
a) Repair of cracks
1. Remove the plaster to a total width of 30–50 cm along the entire length of the detachment (15–25 cm on each side).
2. Widen the detachment area by breaking the surrounding bricks with a sharp tool.
3. Clean the area thoroughly with compressed air or a brush.
4. Dampen the substrate thoroughly.
5. Introduce DUROCRET or RAPICRET mortar as deeply as possible into the widened crack using a trowel. Mix these mortars with water only. Once the mortar has hardened, continue with plaster repair.
b) Repair of plaster
1. Clean areas where plaster has been removed of loose particles and dust and dampen with water.
2. Apply the first coat of UNICRET or UNICRET‑FAST mortar reinforced with ADIPLAST polymer latex. Add ADIPLAST to the mixing water at a ratio of 1 : 3 (ADIPLAST : water).
3. While the first coat is still fresh, place a strip of fiberglass mesh along the border of the cleared plaster and press lightly into the coat.
4. After the first coat has set, apply the final coat of UNICRET or UNICRET‑FAST mortar. Mix with water only. If higher strength plaster is desired, add ADIPLAST polymer latex to the mixing water at a ratio of 1 : 5.
IV. REMARKS
- Application temperature must be between +5 °C and +35 °C.
- Do not soften material that has started to set by adding water.
- In summer, dampen the plaster after application to protect it from dehydration due to high temperatures.
- Read the manufacturer’s instructions for safe use and precautions on the product packaging.
