RELATED MATERIALS:
- DUROCRET polymer-modified cement mortar
- RAPICRET rapid-setting repair mortar
- UNICRET cement-lime mortar
- UNICRET-FAST fast-setting cement-lime mortar
- ADIPLAST polymer additive for mortars
- FIBERGLASS MESH 160 (alkali resistant reinforcing mesh)
I. NATURE OF THE PROBLEM - REQUIREMENTS
Small cracks with width less than 1 cm in masonry walls reduce the appearance of the facade and allow moisture to penetrate. They may be caused by shrinkage, vibrations, minor settlements or thermal effects. The repair material should bond well to the substrate, be workable and have low shrinkage to prevent re-cracking.
II. SOLUTION
Crack repair consists of filling the crack with polymer-modified mortar and restoring the surrounding plaster. For cracks up to 1 cm wide, use DUROCRET or RAPICRET to fill the crack. To restore the plaster, use UNICRET or UNICRET-FAST modified with the polymer additive ADIPLAST. Reinforce the repair using alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh.
III. APPLICATION
1. Crack repair
- Remove the plaster along the crack and widen the crack to about 3 cm depth. Clean the crack thoroughly and dampen it.
- Prepare DUROCRET or RAPICRET according to the instructions. Fill the crack in thin layers, compacting each layer well with a trowel.
- Scratch the surface of the repaired crack to improve adhesion for the plaster.
2. Plaster restoration
- Remove any loose or damaged plaster around the crack. Clean and dampen the substrate.
- Prepare UNICRET or UNICRET-FAST mortar, adding ADIPLAST (about 1 kg per 25 kg of mortar) to improve adhesion and reduce shrinkage.
- Apply a spatterdash coat of the modified mortar. While it is still fresh, press a strip of FIBERGLASS MESH 160 along the length of the crack.
- After the spatterdash sets, apply the finishing coat of the modified mortar in one or two passes to the desired thickness. Smooth the surface with a float.
IV. REMARKS
- Apply repairs at temperatures between +5 C and +35 C.
- Do not add water or remix mortars after they have begun to set.
- In hot or windy conditions, keep the repaired area moist for at least 48 hours.
- Follow the product safety instructions and wear appropriate protective equipment during mixing and application.
